Maybe the music would have stopped (for us),
long enough to climb over the "do not enter (museum staff only)" sign,
through the marble arch
and out into the darkness behind it
(they were never seen again)
into a happy ever after.

But it didn't,
and I woke up to crumpled sheets and cold coffee
