It is irony that it was once said that the love of money is the root of all evil.
I have found a species of humanity, to whom money is incidental, and it is the love of work that transcends all.
What proverb is there then for these?
I'll walk my legs into stumps to distance myself from your unique non-conformity.
Machiavelli, loosely paraphrased, said that real charity exists only when no one is watching.
Non-confirmity, if no one is like you.

art is easy
poverty is hard
contentment impossible.
Maybe the music would have stopped (for us),
long enough to climb over the "do not enter (museum staff only)" sign,
through the marble arch
and out into the darkness behind it
(they were never seen again)
into a happy ever after.

But it didn't,
and I woke up to crumpled sheets and cold coffee
(you were never seen again).

i am blood in the night
that is thicker than juice
and is over
and under
the down stuffed jackets of our youth

19/02/08

I broke today.

First there was the able/willing dichotomy followed by the consequences.

Then there was Boaz.

Then there was Belmont and the good day my friend.

Then I broke.

The sun felt different on my skin, and the wind too on my skin. Though the streets were filled with throngs of people in motion, they might as well have been empty.

Then there was Spurgeon on doubt.

And there was Craig Barnes citing 2 Timothy 4:7 as a destination and an aspiration.

Then there was "By contrast, mistakes made by people who are trying to do the right thing can always be redemeed" which kind of broke the bund.

But is a platitude or a promise?

"It isn't that we doubt the concept of sin. But we are confused about what constitutes a sin. Since our society keeps changing the false gods we worship, we also keep changing the things we label as sin. When we worshiped the god of success, people considered it a sin to be a failure. When we worshiped the god of self, it was a sin not to be self-actualized even if that meant breaking our commitments, hoarding our money, or forgetting about the public good. Now that we worship at the altars of pluralism and tolerance, the only unforgivable sin is to claim that someone else is wrong. All of this has left us morally confused. But still we know that something is wrong." - Craig Barnes "Hustling God"

Why are the powers that be so self-righteous, cold-hearted and merciless? Is it because they imagine that they will never need someone else's mercy? Or do they think they can hide their sins beneath the body corporate. Bodies corporate can commit crimes, but they cannot sin. As far as sins are concerned, I think we bear full personal liability.

I am so sad to be voiceless on this little island, teeming with people.

But if I was given back my voice, I don't think I would know what to say. The price for being dumb all these years.
